March 9, 2008 - Barnyard Bash was a success I can't believe my little boy is already ONE! They weren't kidding when they say "they grow up so fast!" He hasn't been in for his 12-month check up yet. I waited a while to make the appointment and they couldn't get him in until this Friday, so I'll probably have a quick updateon the 14th with that information. Cooper's party was AMAZING! It was lot of work but it was so worth it! It was everything I wanted and more. He had a blast and crashed as soon as we got back in the house. He ended up sleeping from 5:30 pm to 5:30 am the next morning, he was pooped! He loved his birthday cake and he got a ton of presents. What more could a parent ask for! So we're off to our next adventure - the toddler years!!! Jan 7,2008 - His boots are made for WALKIN' and that's just what they'll do... That's right, Friday night (Papa's birthday, 01/04/08), Cooper was feeling invigorated after his bath and he took 3 steps ON HIS OWN from mom to dad! This was not coached or anything, so of course, all day Saturday we worked on it. Total for the weekend he probably took about 75 steps but the most he's put together at one time is about 5. Regardless, we are extremely excited and proud!!! So he learned just in time for his 10-month birthday today!! And he will definitely be EVERYWHERE by his first birthday in just two short months!!! Jan 2, 2008 - HAPPY NEW YEAR Well it's a new year and Cooper's first Christmas has come and gone. I'm telling you that boy got more toys than a daycare would know what to do with!!! It's great though, he's never low on things to play with these days. Not only did he get a boatload of toys, but he got a week and a half at home with Mommy (Texas A&M gets a rather long holiday break) so Nana got a decent break from babysitting. Anyway, between the toys and the break with Mom he had a great Christmas! He did partake in a little unwrapping of presents but his interest was mostly in the tearing of the paper and not necessarily what was inside! And of course, after Christmas comes the New Year. Well with a 9.5 month-old I did NOT stay up until midnight to ring in the New Year. Coop went to bed at 10:30 and we were right behind him. He did wake up at 12:20 though...so I guess you could say he and I had a little New Year's celebration over a warm bottle of milk, but basically that was the extent of my New Year's partying! I'm looking forward to this next year and watching Coop continue to grow and learn. I can't believe it's almost time to plan a FIRST birthday! Dec 3, 2007 - 9 Month Check-Up I can't believe that we are finished with our 9 month check up already!! The appointment was great! Cooper was in a fantastic mood - before and after the visit. He didn't have any scheduled vaccinations but I did go ahead and get him a flu shot. He has not had a single illness yet (knock on wood) so I didn't want him to catch the flu either! Plus the doc recommended it. Anyway, he weighs 18 pounds exactly (that's just the 25th percentile) and he is 28 and 3/4 inches tall (75th percentile on that one). So he's tall and skinny so far! Dr. Schams thought there would be a good chance that he could walk sooner rather than later because of his small. It's easy to balance such a small amount a weight I guess because Coop is cruising already. Holding onto objects and walking across the table and anything else he can get a little support from. Oh he also has all 8 "baby teeth" already too! The first two came in at exactly 6 months and then we hit a dry spell and the other 6 came in within 2 weeks of each other and all were in by the time he turned 8 months old. He has also been switched completely to formula now and is doing fine with that. So many changes in him and so little time to update!! Sept 7, 2007 - 6 Month Check-Up Another two months have just flown by! Cooper had his 6 month check up today and all was wonderful. There was an extra special bonus this time - his daddy got to come! He hasn't been to an appointment since the 6 week check up so that was nice! He growing right on schedule, he gained 2 pounds and 1 ounce this time bringing him to a whopping 15 pounds, 10 ounces (35th percentile). He grew 1.5" this time which makes him 26 1/4 inches tall now (50th percentile) and finally his little noggin is not so little anymore! His head grew another 2 cm as well which brings it into the 75th percentile! I think that's so funny! Anyway, he just got 3 shots this time and the same oral one. He actually cried longer than ever before and I can't help but wonder if it was because he had extra sympathy with mommy and daddy there! The good part is it only took him a day to get over them this time...so that was very nice! Now we don't go back until 9 months! And for a quick additional update he's made some substantial changes since the last update. He currently has BOTH of his two front bottom teeth in and has also learned to sit up on his own - like a champ! July 3, 2007 - 4 Month Check-Up Woo hoo, what a great check-up!! You can see on his Cooper Baggett page that he is growing wonderfully! He is now 13 pounds 9 ounces and 24 3/4 inches long. That puts him in the 50th percentile for height (he was previously 35%) and his weight is still 35th percentile like last check-up. He did fine with his shots again. I mean, of course he cried when she stuck him the first time, but she was done within seconds again and he was fairly easy to calm down. This time I knew to prepare for it to take him about 3 days to fully get over the vaccinations so knowing that we didn't have that much trouble with him. Although he was having some major teething pain at the same time - but we made it through! May 4, 2007 - 2 Month Check-Up Everyone had warned me how hard his first appointment with vaccinations would be and that I would probably cry...well they were right! Right about everything but the crying part, I didn't cry only Cooper did. Fortunately Vanessa, his nurse, was extremely quick so before he ever took his first breath from crying she had all 4 shots done! Dr. Schams was extremely proud of his progress and said he was just doing wonderfully. He said his activeness was a great thing and he was such a happy baby - so that was nice to hear. Currently Cooper weighs 10 pounds 12 ounces and is 22 inches long. He wasn't overly cranky the next day either so I think we managed just fine. April 18, 2007 - Back to Work (waah, aaah) So I went back to work today and it was so sad and so hard to leave my little boy behind to do so. Thank God he is being kept by my mother-in-law so it's not like I had to trust some stranger with him, but it was still really really hard to go. I held it together while I was actually dropping him off with Charlene but I did have some tears in my eyes as I backed out of their driveway. The whole morning was tough at work because people kept telling me welcome back and how is your baby doing which would upset me a little but after I checked on him around lunch and heard that they were doing fine I had a better afternoon. The next few days were still tough but no tears were shed. I miss my little guy like crazy but I know he's in good hands! March 27. 2007 - 2 Week Check-Up Well his 2 week check-up was practically a three week check up because of the whole jaundice scare. His pediatrician wanted to see him 2 weeks after we were released from the hospital free of jaundice so his appointment ended up the day before he turned 3 weeks. He is doing great though! Just a touch of jaundice still but it's almost all the way gone, nothing to be concerned with. He gained one pound 3 ounces and grew 1 and 3/4 inches which brings him to 7 lbs. 10 oz. and 20 and 3/4" long. My growing little boy! Anyway, we go back in two months and until then we just keep enjoying every minute of every day! March 11, 2007 - Jaundice Scare I will keep this update brief since I'm actually going back and typing it after the fact. On Sunday, Cooper's 4th day of life, we were admitted to the hospital with a pretty severe case of jaundice. His reading was 22.7 and needed to be around 15 to not be admitted. He had to stay under ultraviolet lights 24/7 and could only be taken out from under them to eat and be changed. We were admitted at 3 pm on Sunday and they did a new test on him at 6 am Monday morning. We got the results from that test and were so relieved of his progress! His number had dropped to 15.7!! So the doctor decided we'd stick him back under the lights and do another test around 3. If his number had dropped below 15 by then we were free to go home! We got the results around 3:30 and he had dropped to 13.3 so needless to say we got him packed up and we headed home. I was so happy to finally get to hold him since I barely got to do that in his first 4 days!
