Appointment Updates

February 27, 2007 - He's coming!!!

So...today was my LAST appointment!  Yes you read that right!  I have no more!  I am scheduled to be induced on March 7, 2007 at 6 am.  He is still doing wonderfully in there but he's definitely running out of room and since we have a "permission slip" to deliver him early - we are!  I will be 37 week and 4 days on Wed and I absolutely can't wait to see him for the first time!  I am still not nervous but overwhelmingly excited!  Stay tuned...

February 20, 2007 - False alarm...

No worries after all.  Yes the blood pressure was up a little last week but it was pretty normal this week.  We still had to take it twice but it was not as bad as the last week episode.  It was also decided that we would be delivering him sometime in my 37th or 38th week, so sometime between March 5-16.  Regardless he will be early.  We also did our LAST growth measurement ultrasound this week and he is 6 pounds 5 ounces already!  The ultrasound tech is generally within a half a pound so he may not be quite that big but he will be a decent size baby even though we are taking him early!

February 13, 2007 - It's about that time

Well I made it 34.5 weeks with virtually no problems.  However, my blood pressure was up again at today's appointment.  Cooper is still doing wonderfully but they are a little more concerned about me now.  I will continue my weekly appointments but just to keep you informed I do not have a doctor's appointment after Mar. 12th, so that tells me the plan is for him to be a little early...we shall see!!!  Oh and p.s. - I lost that one pound I gained!

February 6, 2007 -  He's doing so well

Cooper is just getting bigger and bigger.  He's passing all of the monitoring tests they are doing for him with flying colors so now we basically just go to the doctor to see what funny thing he does that day.  Today he was just a good little boy; he moved around on the ultrasound during his bio-physical profile test and he went crazy during his non-stress test moving all over the joint again!  I didn't gain any weight this week, but that's ok with me, it will even out last weeks huge gain!

January 30, 2007 - He got the hiccups for the first time!!!

The cutest thing happened during my appointment today.  While I was hooked up to the fetal monitor during the non-stress test Cooper got the hiccups!  A brief description of how this monitor works, it is a little square that we strap to my stomach which captures his heart rate and any other bold movements he may make in there.  It's just audio no visual, but while on the monitor he got the hiccups.  I knew this because it was a consistant soft bump on top of his heartbeat.  They were so funny but eventually I felt sorry for him because he could not get rid of them.  I think he got mad too because he started kicking and bumping all over the place - an interwomb fit you might say!!!  Oh and for those of you keeping track I gained 5 POUNDS this week!  That puts me one pound over my starting weight - but still, 5 pounds, GEEZ!  Cooper is at 4 pounds 5 ounces they estimate.

January 23, 2007 - What an active little (big) guy!

He's really active and growing just fine - exactly like they had hoped.  Sorry there isn't much "news" to report when I have been going weekly now for several weeks.  So we are both doing fine.  I still haven't gained a huge amount of weight, I'm 4 pounds lighter than pre-pregnancy weight but Cooper is just in there growing like a weed.  We will be glad to keep you posted on any changes!

January 17, 2007 - He's getting bigger!!!

The appointment went great.  We have started to do monitoring of the baby just incase and he passed that with flying colors - good strong heartbeat, and plenty of movement.  Also, I did not gain or lose any weight however he gained a half a pound!  Everything was great and based on his growth numbers we are looking at the week of Spring Break for delivery.  OH. MY. GOD!  My tummy is still small so he is definitely  taking up all the space but that's ok I'm not complaining!

January 2, 2007 - Oh My Gosh, He's Already Three Pounds!

Ok the appointments are getting closer together now which means he's getting closer to making his entrance!  It's been 3 weeks since my last appointment and at this one we did an ultrasound to check growth and then just a regular check up.  He's right on schedule according to the measurements, except weight...he's a half a pound above average at already 3 pounds!  I go back in 2 weeks and after that one I start going weekly just to be cautious.  He'll be here before we know it!

December 19, 2006 - 3D Ultrasound at Peek A Baby

Wow - what an awesome day!  I love when I have an ultrasound anyway because I like to see my little guy squirming and moving around, but this was great!  I got it all captured on dvd, the whole 30-minute ultrasound.  My mom, Charlene and Karen all got to go with me and it was so worth the money.  To the right there is a sweet 3D photo of my Cooper and a few other good ones in the photo gallery on his page.  I highly recommend a 3D ultrasound to anyone considering it!  What a great Christmas present to myself!

December 11, 2006 - Good news only!!

I PASSED!!!  I passed all 4 blood sugar tests so no gestational diabetes for me.

December 7, 2006 - Good news and bad news

I don't want to alarm anyone, so I will start by clarifying the bad news is NOT that bad.  I went in today for my regularly scheduled 24-week check up and glucose test (to test for gestational diabetes).  Everything looks great with the baby!  He's growing just right on schedule and so am I.  My weight gain is still in the negative, I actually lost 2 pounds over the last month.  But...I failed the glucose test.  So I have to go back Monday to take a 3-hour version of basically the same test.  If I fail it to, then I have gestational diabetes and will likely have to start a diet and possibly medication.  If I pass it, then no worries.  Lots of people fail the first one but pass the extended test so I am not freaking out, I'm just waiting for Monday to see what step we take next!

Now onto the good news - my blood pressure was down considerably!!!  I mean, almost normal even!  It was 128/72 and my doctor was so pleased to see that.  So at least we have one concern pretty much under control now!

November 1, 2006 - IT'S A BOY!!!

My regularly scheduled ultrasound was today.  My blood pressure was a little high, which was to be expected, but definitely leveled off with the help of my medicine, so that was good news.  I still have not gained any weight, but as of this appointment I have gained back 6 of the 10 pounds I lost.  So I'm still down 4 from pre-pregnancy weight.  The ultrasound tech, Melissa, was GREAT!  She asked us not to tell her what the doctors' guess was from the "Sneak Peak" and literally as soon as she put the machine on my belly she saw the sex.  She said, "Oooh, wait, let me be sure... was their guess BOY?"  We said, "yes."  She said "it's DEFINITELY a boy!"  So we were excited to know for sure.  She said she never gives a full 100% but for us she said she was 99.99999% sure - so we will go with BOY!  He had his legs spread wide open for the world to see as soon as I laid on that table!  He definitely didn't want anything pink!  The rest of the appointment was great as well!  I recorded the ultrasound, we got some good shots of his ... um... gender and a new face shot.

We also registered at Target today.  Casey and I went together and yes, for those of you wondering, I gave him the gun!  So our registry is well stocked with goodies for "his boy!"  Check it out at www.target.com!

October 18, 2006 - The Sneak Peak

Shh, but we took a sneak peak today!  Justin, my boss who is also an OB/GYN, offered to take a peak if I came in today after work.  So of course I did.  The appointment was great!  My child is hilarious!  I wish I would have recorded that appointment, but I didn't.  After 30 minutes of looking at legs crossed tightly at the knees, they were able to make a guess but not tell me for sure.  They said 80% boy ... but just not sure.  Well, Justin's actual words were, "I'm thinking pickle" and the nurse in there with us agreed.  So pickle we are assuming...  Oh and during the ultrasound the baby reached down between its legs and quickly put the hand back up by its face - if that ain't a boy I don't know what is!!!

A bit of more serious news, at the end of the ultrasound we checked my blood pressure and it was high - again.  So the Friday after I came in my doctor called a Maternal Fetal Specialist in Austin and reviewed my situation with him.  They have decided to put me on medication, but a very low dosage.  I was bummed, but I don't feel any affects from the medicine so I think I will be ok taking it.

October 4, 2006 - Blood Pressure Blues

Appointment #3 went smoothly.  Casey was able to go with me but unfortunately my blood pressure was still high.  So apparently I'm going to be a problem child for my doctor - but I will do my best to not be.  Quote from Dr. Garant, "mommy and baby are growing perfectly."  So that's a good sign!  I'm in week 16 now, but she isn't comfortable determining gender until at least 20 weeks so we aren't finding out this time.  We'll have to wait another month.  The majority is saying they picture us with a boy - but there are a few girl guessers; Gran, my mom, and one of my cousins.  I think that' about it though.  Oh! And my mom and sister have a $50 bet on what the baby is - again Mom says girl, Karen says boy.  Payout is not until the birth though...just incase!

September 6, 2006 - So far so good...

Another appointment under our belt, or should I say my belt?  Casey couldn't make it to this one, there was too much going on at school and he was never able to get away and meet me up there.  My blood pressure was high at this appointment, really high.  They took it  twice before I went back to see the doctor and it was high both times.  We went through my appointment and I laid down in the dark and rested for about 5 minutes then she, Robin, came back in to take it again and it was normal - twice.  So we are going to keep an eye on it, but no worries just yet.

August 9, 2006 - We are expecting!!!

We are pleased to announce that Casey and I are expecting our first child!  Interestingly enough, we got a positive test results confirmed by my doctor just one day before Casey's 30th birthday!  Hell of a birthday present - wouldn't you say! So we are officially in our 8th week and we faintly heard the heartbeat and it was 160 bpm!  See ultrasound photo below - but good luck finding a baby in it!  To me it's a fuzzy blob, so for now I'm calling the baby Fuzzy!  Stay tuned for updates...as often as I can post them anyway...
