November 13, 2009 - The Big Brother

Poor baby, it's been almost 5 months since I updated his section of our website.  You can tell he was getting the shaft for the last few months.  Sorry baby.  I'm apologizing mainly because the poor thing had one of the biggest accomplishments in his life happen and I didn't even give him credit for it here.  He's is potty trained!  He has BEEN potty-trained since July!!!  Yes, we have had the typical set backs that come with the introduction of a new sibling but not as bad as some I have heard.  He really continued to great once Kori was born, it was the transition going back to Nana's during the day where he is having the most issues.  But is still potty trained.  He was perfect at first, now we have an accident here and there but that's no big deal considering he's just barely 2.5 years old!  I am VERY proud of him and his accomplishments.

Also, in recent weeks, he has decided that he LOVES school.  He hasn't cried a drop since we went to the Fall Festival at his school.  It's been a solid 3 weeks that he has just practically ran to his classroom and never looked back to tell me bye!  I love that he loves it now!

July 26, 2009 - Cooper Goes Fishing with his OWN "shishing pole"

At such a young age there are so many first in a child's life, but today turned out to be surprisingly entertaining and fun so I found it worthy of an update.  Casey and I took Coop down to the lake at our house because it's a little low right now so it's really easy to stand right up close to the water; even for a 2 year old.  Cooper recently became the proud owner of a Shrek fishing pole from Bass Pro Shop.  He has practiced, practiced and practiced some more inside the house and finally today we decided to upgrade him to the great outdoors.  Cooper did GREAT!  He lasted about an hour but probably could have lasted forever had it not been right before nap time that we decided to venture down to the lake.  Regardless, Casey changed the dummy weight (which was a token with a picture of a donkey on it) on Coop's pole to an actual hook on a weighted line with a cork.

The very first cast Cooper made, the cork went immediately under water because there was a fish on it!!!  We couldn't believe the luck!  That's definitely the way to gain an instant fan of the sport - a catch on the first cast!  Anyway, it was a tiny little perch and Cooper was just as proud as could be.  He wanted to touch it and get it off the hook and help in anyway possible.  During the hour we were out there Cooper caught a second perch on his Shrek rod and right before we came in caught a nice big perch on Casey's ultralight rod.  In between Cooper's 2nd and 3rd fish he asked Casey to catch a BIIIG fish - and what do you know, Casey performed.  He caught a 5 lb bass within minutes of Cooper's request.  Sorry, I was so wrapped up in capturing Cooper's first experience that there are no pictures of the WHOLE 5 lb fish, but I got most of it on record (sorry fish-lovers)!!  Pictures of the whole adventure can be found on the Cooper Baggett page... enjoy!  Oh and by the way... this adventure was followed by a LONG 3-hour nap!!!

June 14, 2009 - Cooper Goes to School

Because my mother-in-law is gracious enough to watch her grandchild rather than have him in a daycare, I thought the least I could do was fine a program or some type of Mother's Day Out to send him to once the new little one is here.  Two small kids is a lot to handle, so I found something for Cooper to do.  I got him into the MDO program's summer camp to give him a little exposure and get him used to being left with total strangers in hopes that by September when the Fall/Spring program starts he will be at least semi-used to it.  The first day of school was more traumatic for me than him, but that was to be expected (by me anyway).  He participated in all the activities but would usually notice I wasn't there at each of the different activities and start crying again.  The teachers described his first day as "rough."  Not because of bad behavior but just because of him being so upset so often.  The second time I dropped him off went a lot smoother (for me) but he actually cried by the time we got to his room.  A few other kids were crying on the way to the room so I think that sort of gave him the idea that it was ok.  So I tried to console him for a few minutes and one of his teachers told me he would be fine so I left him.  He did do better the second time.  They described him as "a little whiney" that time.  So to me - that was an improvement!  The summer program is only one day a week for the month of June so I think he will at least get used to the idea of playing at school and we can work on him perfecting it in he fall.

In other news and updates, Cooper knows the entire alphabet now and can sing the song.  Ok so he might get a letter or two wrong, but he knows it almost perfectly.  Letters by sound and recognition and even what a few examples of some letters are ... like "C is for Cooper."  He's so smart! :)  He's also moved into his big boy room.  It's not 100% Cooper-ized yet, but he's in there.  He's sleeping in a full size bed now and is doing GREAT!  We are working on getting it painted by the end of June so I really hope that he will be back to having his OWN space by then.

March 28, 2009 - 2 Yr Check Up

So just to recap, even though I posted this on the homepage as well.  Cooper's 2 year check up was March 9th.  The shots were a little traumatic for him, but we won't dwell on that.  He got them and he's done with shots for a while (whew)!  He weighed 25 lbs and 2 oz (20th percentile) and was 34 1/4 inches tall (50th percentile).  Which is pretty much right where he's been all along.  One of the questions the doctor asked was does he have a vocabulary of 50 words yet.  My answer was - are you kidding me, more like 350!!!  I think Cooper and I know all of the same words now!  At least it seems that way at times!  He is such a smart little boy and we are so extremely proud.  Since he isn't in daycare or any kind of school program we are working on the alphabet and counting with him all by ourselves and it turns out it's not as hard as I expected.  Cooper knows the letters of the alphabet A-G (and a few other random ones but not in order) and can count to 8.  While he can't sing the alphabet song yet, he is learning the letters and the sounds they make simultaneously.  So usually it goes something like this "Cooper, what letter is this? And we show him an "A."  His response is A, goes aah.  So that's cute and also another proud moment!
